Massage
What does a massage do and how will I feel afterwards?
- Massage helps by increasing blood flow to tissues and organs and increasing lymph flow (this helps remove toxic waste stuck in your muscles that cause or contribute to chronic pain or joint stiffness).
- Massage has also been shown to release endorphins, the "feel good chemicals" released whenever you exercise or laugh. Endorphins are part of what make you feel relaxed, happy and stress-free after a good massage or workout.
- Massage is the number one choice of patrons of Spas throughout the world because it helps with physical and mental relaxation and with releasing painful muscle spasms.
How is a massage performed?
- During your treatment, you are always properly draped with sheets, towels, blankets and/or disposable undergarments that we provide.
- Your therapist will ask you what areas you would like to focus on, such as shoulders and neck, sore back, or achy, tired legs. If you like, you may have all your time concentrated on just the areas you need, or you can have a full body massage with a special focus on those areas.
- You may ask the therapist to adjust his or her pressure and tempo so that you are comfortable.
- You may have a deeply relaxing massage that puts you into a sleepy trance, or an "invigorating" treatment with stretching that leaves you feeling like you have just had a good workout at the gym, or anywhere in between. Just speak up and let your therapist know what you want each time.
Massage Treatments offered at Pipestem Spa
All treatments are customized to meet your special needs and you may choose a 50 or 80 minute treatment ($90/$130).
Relaxing Spa Massage - Relaxing, soothing, long flowing Effleurage strokes designed increase blood circulation, relax muscles and let go of all tension and stress. We usually include an Aromatherapy scalp, neck and shoulder treatment, hot stones and a Dead Sea salt scrub in your treatment. (No additional charge).
Medical Massage - Neuromuscular/Deep Tissue Sports Massage - Deep, focused massage to address chronic pain, ischemic or toxic tissue, and taut bands or “adhesions” in muscles, or to address specific problems such as migraines, sciatica pain, cervical or back pain, etc. Medical Massage may be combined with stretching and occasionally, hot stones. You may feel sore for a day or two afterwards, as your tissues begin to normalize. Remember to drink extra water to rehydrate tissues involved in your therapy.
Hot Stone Massage - Hot, black volcanic stones are used during your massage to deeply penetrate sore muscles. Your therapist will incorporate the stones into your massage. Everyone has different comfort levels and please let your therapist know if you would like your stones cooler or warmer.
Reflexology - Special form of massage that focuses on the meridians to help restore the natural flow of energy to all organ systems of the body. We can include exfoliation for rough dry skin, steamy hot towels and a rich rehydrating cream if you like.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT) - Slow, soothing, ultra light pressure massage that assists the body in releasing toxins and draining excess fluid held in the tissues and organs. LDT is especially good after facial or other surgery to help decrease swelling, bruising and speed healing. LDT is done fully clothed, without oils or creams and is very relaxing.
Pre-natal/Pregnancy Massage - Gentle, but firm massage on entire back and neck and long soothing strokes along legs and thighs with pure coconut oil (helps reduce stretch marks). Extra attention is given to swollen ankles and feet to decrease fluid retention.
Romantic Couples Massage - Our Most Popular Massage! We have a special "Couples Massage Room" with two tables side by side and two professional massage therapists. This treatment begins with an aromatherapy scalp, neck and shoulder massage, continues with a relaxing Swedish Massage with hot stones and foot reflexology, and ends with a tantalizing Dead Sea Salt Scrub, hot towels and a rich, hydrating cream massaged along entire back. Your time here at Pipestem Spa will also include about 15 minutes in the Relaxation Room with refreshments. Please let us know if your treatment is for a Special Occasion, such as anniversary, or birthday. $195 per couple - includes a pampering bubble bath/mineral soak for two.
Friends and Family Massage - Same treatment as the "Romantic Couples Massage" with two people in the same room, and two therapists, but does not include the bubble bath. Suitable for friends, family members or couples who do not want the bubble bath or who are short on time. $180 (no bubble bath)
